It is slightly off topic. Still, I wanted to share my experience in developing Android Apps in the past week.

After seeing thousands of free apps in Google Playstore, I had a thought that if it is that much hard to create an app then how come these many number of apps could be shared freely? So, I decided to go through the process of creating an App myself.

I had downloaded the Android Studio (Official IDE of Google for developing Android App) which itself is 1GB of size. After downloading the studio, while getting installed, it automatically downloads another 600+ MB! I am so terrified on seeing the size of the installation. After installing the software I found it to be very slow.

But, believe me friends, it took just 2 hours to study about the basic android app development. In just three days, I could completely port my HMG Interest(ing) Calculator code to native Android.

So, if you want to create some mobile app to compliment HMG, don't hesitate to try Android Studio.

Most tutorials about native Android development with Java were confusing, ugly and very demotivating for me.

To create my first app basically every programmer wants to do when he starts with a new platform/language - 'Hello World', I followed the following tutorials.

Creating a hello world app is damn easy that you need not type even a single line of code. Just create a new project and build. Your hello world app is ready.

Successfully compiling the first app, I started adding controls, properties etc. Every hurdle we get would have been literally got by somebody else previously. So, in the internet there is vast resource of solutions for every problem we may come across.

I have chosen a simple application without any database requirement. That went on fine. Now, I am working on SQLite. As I have knowledge already in SQLite it seems very easy to develop database apps also.

The advantages of using Android Studio are:

1. We need not type lengthy lines of coding.
2. What we see in many xml files in our project directory are created by the IDE automatically and we have to just specify which controls are required and what we want to do with that control whenever some events are fired. (Like HMG)
3. The IDE is so active that every single character you type is compiled immediately and syntax errors are immediately reported.
4. It is also very easy to debug.

I've attempted this with the previous generation tools (prior Android Studio). The process had been heavily simplified.
