Si, son cosas que muchas veces no logramos vislumbrar el tamaño de la tragedia, a lo mejor por que no hemos sufrido como otras personas. Mis resos para toda esa gente.
Thanks for the thought. I'm safe and my family. Philippines is not a contiguous land mass but instead compose of 7,100 islands and most of it is not habitable. What you saw in the picture is Tacloban City (The Capital of Leyte). That place is totally devastated. Although people there are used to typhoon however Category 5 Typhoon rarely happened. People prepared and evacuated but since it is a small island the water surge brought about by the typhoon is comparable to tsunami plus the sustained wind of 195 km/h. The people and children who have been evacuated to what is believed to be safe place becomes their grave. The detachment of the rescue team has been washed out as well and the rescue team are missing. The safest thing to do is to evacuate the entire island which will not going to happen I think. Apart from sadness, sorrow and confusion, survivors are still thankful because the storm passes quickly at 25 Km/h. If it is slower no one can tell what's gonna happen.
I lived on the main island (Luzon) which is protected by a continuous mountain range (we called Sierra Madre) from storm surges incoming from the Pacific Ocean.
Well I noticed, (I don't know if it is me only) that right after Japan's earthquake the typhoon's latitude (usual path) drops. Those areas that has never been visited by typhoon has become the most frequently visited.
Likewise, I also wish that our friends from Vietnam is also safe because Haiyan is heading towards them. That's the usual pattern of typhoon.

The thought of maybe 10,000 killed, many tens of thousands homeless and many millions more whose lives have been disrupted is just too depressing for words. My heart goes out to all affected. Mother nature really can be brutal sometimes.
