I've programmed:

RPG on IBM SYSTEM/36

COBOL on WANG VS 80

PS: Wang system software and compilers, were a lot more friendly and easy to use, than its IBM counterparts at the same epoch, sadly, Wang not survived the 80's.

And...

Some months ago, I've bought a new PC for home work.

She is a little NUC format computer (I've attached to my monitor back). I've configured with a SSD instead a mechanical HD.

No fans, no moving parts... NO NOISE at all... and this remembered me a lot, the home computers era... fast boot... silent... small...

Since the first day I began using it, I can't stop thinking that PC technology took 30 years to match some of the great things of the 80's home computers

We only need now, an immutable OS resident on read-only memory... it could be (among other advantages) inmune to viruses... maybe the industry will need another 30 years to take notice of this and fully match the 80's technology benefits

had ever happened to you to hear the whistling of a cassette during loading?
(lightning fast repeated beeps, "telegraph like", but way more loud, continuous and absolutely vexing.
unforgettable thrill for the ears!)
..and after some quite large minutes of loading, a sudden hoarse cassette cough, and then a bright ..
"loading error" or something like that, I don't remember well - it was some 35 years ago..
Oh, and the "pet", IIRC, had a quite strange name: ORIC ATMOS

(what an "inglourious" paleolithic thread is this one)

A screwdriver for align the tape recorder head, cotton and a bottle of alcohol to clean it... what a times...

But, the happiness when our beloved game finally loaded correctly... ohhhh... nothing today compares to that

So, for my C64 I got a 1541 drive... it almost worked from time to time
