Perhaps due to hardware acceleration, because the Commodore 64 was bringing the operating system and BASIC recorded in ROM .
It is just speculation on my part.

Hi Friends:

Claudio: it's not your speculation, it's true.- In Commodore's case, if you used (on C128) in CPM mode, the speed decreases substantially, first because OS and Programs must be stored on ram, and second because the was not enough space to store simultaneously the OS and Programs, so any process must read and right from floppy.- By that time, most of Commodore users discard CPM Software and use most popular soft originally produced for Commodore.-

What i yearn from those years (80's) is that we must sharpen our wits to make the most with only 48K (but at least enough to develope and app), 5 1/4 floppy with only 360K (by the way in that year a floppy was a Ferrari in comparission with slow and sequential cassette storage).- Today we have terabytes, superspeed chips, gigas of ram, pendrivez, SC cards, to do anything.-

We are fortunatelly to live that years and test those machines.- Happy aniversary
With regards.
Eduardo
