BIOS-CMOS Question

Post by serge_girard »

Does anyone have experience with changing the BIOS-CMOS?

My problem: I want to run an HMG program EVERY day at 6 AM for example.

Since my PC is turned off, the BIOS must be adjusted so that it starts up at 6:00 AM,
and start my program. My program also provides the shutdown when it notices
that it started between 05:50 and 06:10.

I have adjusted my CMOS Setup (resume by .. everyday.. etc.) , saved, and after that everything went well only one time (the first time).
Now it doesn't seem to work at all.

Can I check my CMOS-BIOS in order to see if my changes are set (instead of interrupting startup with F10)?
Or somebody has an idea has is going wrong?

Thx, Serge

I'm not sure to understand what you need

1. to start at a certain time?
2. to ensure that the computer always works?
3. to reset when not respond?

1. many bios have this capability, but additionally, it must be provided to shut down or reset at a specified time

3. those who bitcoin minig have a usb device that resets the computer when it not respond

Specifications 1. Applicable to a variety of computer motherboards. motherboards just need with a Type-A USB interface . 2. Use for windows x86/x64 system. include winxp, win7, win8, win10 ect. 3. Need to install the driver to compatible with a variety of motherboards. 4. With Desktop software, It can precise monitoring the program as your need. Better than no software version. 5. Reboot timeout time 10-1270 seconds. You can set up it as your need. 6. Newest monitoring desktop software version: USBWatchDog V2.3 Function: Specified Program Monitoring Scheduled Restart Website Monitoring Video Card Monitoring Run Log Query Support Forced Power off Restart Support Connect electricity Automatic Starting up

Hello Dragan,

This is what I want:

STEP 1) Start at 06:00 (everyday, even if I'm on holiday): NOK
STEP 2) A startup-batch will execute a few programs: OK
STEP 3) Last program in batch CAN execute shutdown (depending time), in order to cut power off and NEXT day resume to STEP 1 : OK

So my PC needs to 1) start up everyday, 2) do some things, 3) shutdown.

Step 1 is **not** working correctly, so I need to read in my BIOS-CMOS settings in order to see why not.
I wil first try to update drivers.

1. BIOS does it nicely, not every, best experience with DELL
2. startup or taske scheduler
3. A better solution is a task scheduler

Hola Serge

Hace algún tiempo yo utilece un "TIMER" ya que en el Bios no se podía hacer.

Hi Serge

Some time ago I used a "TIMER" since the Bios could not be done.

Dragan,

Task scheduler is not possible when the computer is turned-off!

Andrés,

Connecting the timer and leaving the computer on? Does it work? I have just a touch-button. Years ago on IBM PC-AT there were large mighty power ON/OFF switches !

Well, some physical modifications were made:

After work, the computer was always left "on" but without electrical power.
What the timer does is simply PASS / REMOVE (since it has an internal clock) the electrical power to the contact at a certain time
which is programmed and in this contact the CPU to be operated is connected.

The rest is already done by programming, which program will run at the time of starting
Windows, what will be its duration and when the program ends, turn off the CPU.

Allowing sufficient time at the time programmed in the TIMER to remove the electrical power.

Of course, the windows should not have a password to enter directly to start the program you want.

Hi Serge,

If `shutdown` isn't mandatory, you can put your computer sleep (or hibernate?)
and create an event in task scheduler to wake it up, on the predefined time.

Practically, `sleep` is similar to `shutdown`, except just a really insignificantly
increased power consumption.

(Personally I do completely shutdown my workstation once a month or rarer,
unless I'm forced to do it due to updates or something).

regards,
Pete
